Berlin's Senator for Transportation and the Environment Manja Schreiner loses her doctorate due to errors in her dissertation and has therefore asked for her dismissal. This was announced by the CDU politician after a lengthy review process.

According to Schreiner, the university had informed her that it would revoke the doctorate she was awarded in 2007. She had therefore asked the Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) to dismiss her from office. "I am doing this to prevent damage to the Berlin Senate." According to the politician, she did not deliberately mislead at any point in her doctoral thesis.

Schreiner had doctoral thesis reviewed by University of Rostock

Schreiner is a lawyer and has been a member of the black-red Berlin Senate since the end of April 2023. In the summer of 2023, there were reports of irregularities and possible plagiarism in her dissertation on the topic of "Employee consideration in takeover law". In response, Schreiner announced at the beginning of August 2023 that she was having her doctoral thesis from 2007 reviewed by the university.

Governing Mayor thanks Schreiner for her work

Governing Mayor Kai Wegner thanked Senator Schreiner and praised her for her work. He had only complied with her request for dismissal "with a heavy heart". "Manja Schreiner is the face and voice for an urgent transport turnaround in our city," said Wegner. Over the last twelve months, she had set the right priorities with a transport policy "that has all road users in mind".
